Heavy Water-An Unusual Form Of Water

Water is the foundation of life and still today, all around the world, far too many people spend their entire day searching for safe and drinking water. You heare and see so many articles related to water its quality, shortage of safe and drinking water.

Water is the foundation of life and still today, all around the world, far too many people spend their entire day searching for safe and drinking water. You  heare and see so many articles related to water its quality, shortage of safe and drinking water.  I am here discuss not very much common form of water called heavy water. Chemically heavy water is identical to the ordinary water but the difference is that heavy water contains an isotope of hydrogen called deuterium that has a neutron in addition to the proton. Heavy water (D2O) is one of most commonly-used moderator in nuclear reactors. Despite the fact the ordinary water and heavy water are chemically identical; heavy water is mildly toxic, since heavy water is heavier than normal water so the speed of chemical reactions involving it is slow down due to the strength of some types of bonds it forms. This affects certain cellular processes, notably mitosis, or cell division, due to the difference in binding energy in the hydrogen bonds needed to make certain proteins. Experimental studies on mouse shown that drinking only heavy water along with normal feed eventually causes degeneration of tissues that need to replenish themselves frequently, and leads to cumulative damage from injuries that don't heal as quickly. Another study had shown that when about 50% of the water in the body has been replaced by D2O or prolonged heavy water consumption can cause death. Heavy water occur naturally along within regular water at a proportion of about 1 molecule in 3200.Heavy water is generally prepared by the electrolysis of ordinary water and Indias first heavy water production  plant, Nangal plant to prepare heavy is based on this method. Nangal plant is the largest plant of its kind in the world and it produced the first drop of heavy water on August 9, 1962.
