In the world today we store more and more of our data through cloud computing and large data centers. In order to store more data we need reduce the space occupied by each piece of information.A team of researchers at Delft University of Technology, Netherlandsdeveloped a device that has reduced this space to atomic scale. “In theory, this storage density would allow all books ever created by humans to be written on a single post stamp”, claims lead-scientist Sander Otte. They reached a storage density of 500 Terabits per square inch (Tbpsi), 500 times better than the bestcommercial hard disk currently available. It still requires considerable work before it’s ready for market, but it’s an important the groundwork for the development of useable atomic-scale data storage devices. This research is published in the top most nanoscience journal “Nature Nanotechnology” on 18 July 2016. Scientist cross the globe are convinced that “Molecular Computers” will be reality soon.
