The Arjun main battle tank (MBT), named after the warrior prince Arjuna in the Indian epic Mahabharata, was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Army. It has been developed under a multilaboratory  programme of DRDO mainly at the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) laboratory.

Arjun Mk.2

The Arjun Mk.2 is an improved version of the original Arjun main battle tank. It was developed in cooperation with Israeli defence companies. A total of 13-15 major improvements were made. An upgraded version of Arjun I MBT, the Arjun Mark II tank features an improved long-range missile-firing capability, panoramic sight with night-vision, explosive reactive armour and an advanced air-defence

gun to engage helicopters. Original Arjun Mk.1 MBT failed to impress the Army and improvements were required in order to make it combat-worthy.The new Arjun Mk.2 has improved protection, firepower and mobility over it's predecessor. Trials of the Arjun Mk.2 began in 2012. It was first publicly revealed in 2014. Arjun Mk-II, the futuristic main battle tank, has been touted as one of the most potent combat tanks for the Army with unmatched automatic target detection and destruction while offering maximum protection to the crew in addition to impressive speed and maneuverability. The Arjun Mk.2 has some design similarities with the German Leopard 2A5 main battle tank. It is claimed that this new Indian tank weights a whooping 68 tones, makes it the heaviest tank in the world. It is even heavier than the American M1A2 Abrams or British Challenger 2. The  Arjun Mk.2 is criticized as being too heavy. There are many problems with it's excessive weight, such as limited cross-country mobility, limiting areas where it can be deployed. Also it is difficult to transport this tank to the front line.

Main Feature of Arjun Mk.2

Ability to fire Anti-tank missile through main gun Extra protection for crew through explosive reactive armor (ERA). Thermal imaging system to scan and detect targets at night. An automatic target tracking (ATT) to make accurate firing on moving targets. Advanced Air defence gun which is capable to shoot down Helicopters. Enhanced auxiliary power unit (APU) with a capability of 8.5 kw(compared to 4.5 kw of mk-1
